I give you this much; it’s a beautiful shot. But there’s nothing remotely moon-like about that landscape.

ABSOLUTELY everything that looks great there is the by-product of either weather or water based erosion. The moon does not and has not ever had either of those.

You could have said Mars-like or Martian and it would have been fine. Or even alien landscape. Other-worldly. Non terrestrial. Extraterrestrial. Unearthly. Sci Fi landscape.

I know it’s a bit anal to point out, but you had so many other options…and you picked the most ill fitting one…

Anyway…nice picture…

holy-shot OP t1_iu5mysq wrote

Well, according to the name of the viewpoint (moon overlook) and the color of the rocks / sand, especially at dusk or dawn, I though it‘d fit quite well. But I get your point.

10

serks83 t1_iu5ttb5 wrote

The viewpoint itself is called moon overlook?! Then the discrepancy is less with you and more with those who named the viewpoint.

I rescind my critique. Still don’t like the comparison; but I’ll probably get over it, at some point in the distant future. /s

I’ll say again though (as it bears repeating); beautiful picture.

It is definitely a otherworldly landscape, just a different "other world."

Nobody actually knew what the surface of the moon looked like before the 60s, and it wouldn't surprise me if the viewpoint was named before then.

It's 1920 x 1080 as stated by the OP. That's pretty standard, maybe you should try refreshing your browser.

One December, many years ago I drove across Utah to get to California. At some point around an hour west of Salt Lake city if I had seen Neil Armstrong bouncing along the interstate in full astronaut gear I wouldn't have been entirely surprised.

That's the Bonnevile Salt Flats. One valley west of there is Pilot Valley...another salt playa... squishey-er than the Salt Flats. Spouse has done field work in PV for years. Went once or twice.... you cant even touch your face or heaven help you rub your eyes.... the dust is mostly salt..... have told kids everyone should go there once to appreciate how much nicer it is just about anyplace else on the planet than there. Spouse got bit on the eardrum by a gnat once, so that was special. Also, there are certain times of years when it's best not to go pee behind a rock because its rattlesnake season.

It looks nothing like the moon, since unlike on earth, our satelite has not atmosphere or oceans to form sedimentary layers that it could have then eroded, though mars kinda looks like that.
