This was shot in Sary Jaz, a remote valley in Eastern Kyrgyzstan, at an altitude of around 3000m. Sary Jaz means Yellow Valley, and the sun-burnt grass leaves no doubt as to the name. The snowcapped ridge is 5000+m high, and just behind them, at 7010m tall, Khan Tengri is just out of sight.

The snowy ridge in this image is 5,000+ meters high, which is more than 16,400 feet high... That's about 2,000 feet taller than Mount Rainier in Washington state!
