This was shot in Sary Jaz, a remote valley in Eastern Kyrgyzstan, at an altitude of around 3000m. Sary Jaz means Yellow Valley, and the sun-burnt grass leaves no doubt as to the name. The snowcapped ridge is 5000+m high, and just behind them, at 7010m tall, Khan Tengri is just out of sight.

The snowy ridge in this image is 5,000+ meters high, which is more than 16,400 feet high... That's about 2,000 feet taller than Mount Rainier in Washington state!

Wow, that’s fascinating! Those elevations make my head spin, even as someone with extensive climbing experience in the Rockies.
