Stunning photo! I would definitely have this enlarged and professionally framed. Just curious: are you a professional photographer?

ttdcfh OP t1_ivaz5lx wrote

Thank you! Nope, not a professional, just an avid hiker and this was a random shot during a backpacking trip.

How are the downed trees this season? Last year was awful..about an hour to get around the lake just due to having to go up and over and around all the dead trees. It was a stunning trip and we made 6 days out of it, but damn that really impacted the hiking.

Is that Eolus in the background?

ttdcfh OP t1_ivcae5x wrote

I don’t believe so based on the angle I was at, but it does look like Eolus for sure with that slope on the right side.

The problem is there are two "Emerald Lake"s close to Durango, and like 5 or 6 in Colorado. They need to get more creative with the names....

What time of year did you take this? Recently? Looks like October

2

ttdcfh OP t1_ivc8djq wrote

Yeah it was early October this year, which led to a great mix of the changing leaves with the snow!

Did you see any marmots there? One chewed up my tent some when I visited a few years ago

ttdcfh OP t1_ivc8l09 wrote

Oh no! Hope it was after you already used it for the night haha Didn’t see any marmots, but there were a few pikas around the campsites
