They there! I believe I met you and your friend Andy when I was on a trip to the apostles! You guys helped us pull out kayaks onto the shore of bear island, shared a few drinks and food with us and gave us your leftover beer! I still remember the cool taste of the MGD after a long day of pattling between islands. That was all the way back in it believe 2016 and I still remember your kindness to a complete stranger! Thank you again and I hope all is well!

Look on a map where Lake Superior touches a little bit of Wisconsin. There's some islands there. Its one of them.

If you look at it on google maps there's a bit of "street view" coverage along the north shore of the island that's really actually more "boat view". You can see how rocky the shore is from that.

It’s a small world!! That was a great day and we were happy to share with you guys - we both know what’s it like to finish a long paddle and then have dehyd’s for supper haha. Have you been back to the Apostles since then? Hit me up if you have a return trip. We’ll make a special delivery of food and beer again ;)

I’m starting to wonder why it’s Devil’s stuff all the time? Why not God’s Gorge? Or Heavens Slope? It’s always Devils Armpit. Sniff.

Guy I met who was on coast gaurd back in the day when they still had people on devils told me they used to make moonshine out there…. Was pretty much all there was to do waiting for their time on the island to finish up. Devils moonshine.

I guess near the devil is where I'll end up being then, cause damn, many of the beautiful places have devil in the name! I cant say Ive been to a beautiful place and thought, "this should reference a devil in its name."

Wow. I opened this thinking "What amazing place I'll never be able to go to was this taken at?", and apparently it's 2 hours away and I've been on the lake 5+ times.

Remember folks, you're always a short distance from unknown dope shit.

apostleislandsphoto OP t1_j0ujues wrote

The trip out wasn’t terrible, but staying for sunset came at a cost. It was a long (20+ miles) cold ride back to the mainland and we broke skim-ice coming down one of the channels. Totally worth it!

sexmoneyweathergifs t1_j0uk1cb wrote

I definitely thought this was going to be some obscure island off the southern tip of South America or something, was certainly not expecting mainland US!

Do you have prints for sale? I’d love to be able to get this picture on canvas and hang in my house! Awesome work, OP!

Putting it on the bucket list! Last I was out on the water there, we took a ferry (I fail to remember where we boarded from, but I'm guessing there's only so many options, haha), to Madeline island, and that was extremely cool. Did a handful of tours, too.

There are actual full time light house keepers out on Superior.

Small. Ocean.

My husband and I have been trying to go to the ice caves for YEARS but the ice hasn't been thick enough in almost ten years. We have both after that if it's ever thick enough we're dropping everything and going immediately

One of my best trips of all time was 2 weeks kayaking the Apostle Islands, about 10 years ago. Some days the water was still as silk, reflecting the sky so clearly it was like paddling through clouds, only disturbed by my own movements. On calm nights the water was lit up by the stars above so we'd paddle out and just become absorbed by it. Other days it was treacherous, waves reaching well above my head, hot sun beaming down on my right side while ice cold water splashed up on my left. Overall it was an incredible experience, I hope to go back some day with a proper boat.
