I'm currently on a ski trip in Zermatt and this was last night's sunset. There were high clouds behind the Matterhorn, but the horizon was clear. The result was a spectacular light show, with the mountain casting a dramatic shadow. The clouds were moving fast, so this halo only lasted for a few seconds.

Shot on a Nikon D850, 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6. You can see more of my photography here: https://www.instagram.com/dibayo/

I was in Zermatt this fall, the top of the Matterhorn was shrouded in at least one cloud the whole time, even when most of the sky was clear. VERY jealous of this shot.

Yeah, the Matterhorn acts almost like a giant cloud catcher.

I’m also skiing in Zermatt this week and luckily saw this yesterday evening. I’ve been staring at the Matterhorn all week and was stunned when I saw these colors poppin.

Wasn't it just insane!? One of the best sunsets I've ever seen in the alps. Tonight might be good too - high clouds!

lol. This joke is so niche. It appears no one else spent the 90s at Disneyland or listening to No Doubt. But I appreciate you.

It took me a looooong time to see the bear. I grew up in Switzerland and I was in my late 20s when I noticed it....

This picture is amazing! It kinda looks as if the sky opened so that a giant blaster could be fired from the Matterhorn, à la Death Star...

Technically this is the Matterhorn, and zermatt is the town that you get this view from. But its a big mountain so you don't have to be in zermatt to get this view

Good point. I titled this based on the location where the image was shot - the Riffelalp, which is in the town of Zermatt. I'm Swiss, so the first thing I thought of was "I'm in Zermatt, I'll put that in the title" But yeah, Matterhorn would have been more accurate.
