Ah! I was fairly certain it was a cherry tree when I was there but now your comment has made me doubt my tree ID...

I took some photos of some supposed ume blossoms last weekend (they do come in many colors, as do sakura), but they sure look like sakura to me and about 50% of the people I show them too. BTW, the peach blossoms are a deep pink too.
