I'm assuming you walked the trail between the two towns? I did this a few years back!

Yea I hear it's beautiful. There's a Sakura festival in philly that I've been to but I hear in Japan it's so much better, I'll be in Iwakuni during the festival there. I wanted to see the Kintai bridge anyway so I'll kill two birds with one stone then!

When the giant sakura tree at my grandma's house finally had to be cut down (was split at the stem, due to parasite infection, i was really sad.

It was gigantic and for some days after the bloom it was just as if nature has it's own confetti party.

Might be ume rather than sakura?

If you are going for the cherry blossoms and get the opportunity, take the Shinkansen up to Aomori Prefecture and go the Hirosaki Castle. The actual Cherry Blossom Festival isn't until late April but it's still an amazing place to visit. I was stationed in Aomori Prefecture for 3+ years and there is an incredible amount uncommon tourist stuff to see there. Lake Towada is a lake formed by a huge volcanic blast that is ringed by hotels, onsens, and walking paths and was very cheap to visit. Cape Shiryazaki is a section of beautiful coast with wild horses, cliffs/unique rock formations, and a light house. It honestly looks like it belongs in Ireland, not Japan. While driving to these places there are cool little roadside produce stands and shrines everywhere. When I first got stationed in Japan I was really bummed that I wasn't in Tokyo but when I left I couldn't have imagined having been anywhere else other than Aomori.

The road between Magome and Tsumago has to be one of my favorite places in Japan, no matter the season. Feels like it hasn't changed in 100s of years.

Honestly I really like it with the editing, but I'm looking at it as more of an artistic piece as opposed to a 100% real photo. Like others have said I think it would make a great album cover!

I took some photos of some supposed ume blossoms last weekend (they do come in many colors, as do sakura), but they sure look like sakura to me and about 50% of the people I show them too. BTW, the peach blossoms are a deep pink too.

Agreed, it's a great hike.

It's still the same Nakasendo the samurai hiked along during the Edo period.
