That's the weird part all of the reviews talk about how the mouthfeel is akin to milk, but it tastes like pineapple and coconut.

I don't know about you but I am not looking for that taste when eating cereal or making drinks with milk.

I have exclusively bought oat milk for the past few years and I no longer notice the difference. Especially with something like cereal that gets sweetened anyway.

I mean oak milk is great, but I'm having trouble understanding what you're saying. Are you just saying you've grown used to it after 5 years? That makes sense, but you are probably still capable of noticing the difference, you just haven't compared (since you exclusively drink it).

I've found oak milk to be great in certain places, like cereal, but it's definitely noticeable drinking it straight. And the problem with all milk replacements is the pricing of milk itself. 4L of milk costs $6 here, 1L costs $3. If I halve my milk consumption I still pay the same price. And so I get the 4L of milk and 2L of oat milk and end up throwing out 2L of something.

I can imagine that's true, although I haven't drank a glass of milk straight since I was a kid. I think milk substitutes are easier if you don't drink a lot of milk as it is. I go through a carton about once every 1-2 weeks, and only use it for cereal and smoothies.

Yeah definitely true, considering that's pretty much the only thing I want it for.

I'm curious what will come of this deal as I do use a lot of dairy, but I do dairy heavy dishes where both taste and texture are very noticeable. But I don't know if I'd notice if kraft dinner went plant based for their "cheese"

Can confirm. Chilean here (this “startup” is chilean), almost all their products taste like shit and are very costly. I wish this was the start of affordable, tasty, vegan food but rhis aint it. Not Co is a very overhyped company that is running on fumes now that all the free capital is over.

Haha spot on. The dude in the middle is a trust fund kid who who started the company with his dad’s money. The guy in the right is the one who actually made the preducts. They pretty much forced him out right before the company went big. Good news is he now has a pretty decent job in our goverment.

Doesn't that describe most of the meat alternative vegan products?

What I don't understand is why plant based alternatives need to approximate the taste at all.

If you're a vegan or vegetarian why would you want processed plants to approximate meat?

Animal treatment aside it seems like high quality vegan foods would be superior to processed meat alternatives.

Wouldn't a nice salad without meat and wide variety of veggies be superior to a salty processed mushroom and bean burger patty?

I think that's more of an omnivore strategy right? Balancing diet sources and for variety of taste and texture.

Where animal diet has been readily available it usually becomes the predominant food source for cultures that don't suffer from poverty or malnutrition.

I drink all kind of milk alternatives. I wanted to like this one…but it’s not just bad, it’s horrendous. It tastes like vomit. Like once you imagine it being vomit, it’s over. I literally gagged on the last mouthful.

Of all the milk substitutes I’ve tried (almond, soy, cashew, oat, coconut, Silk brand plant milk), this one is my favourite! Does it taste exactly like milk? No. Don’t expect it to. But the mouthfeel/texture is pretty good in tea and it hits the spot well enough for me to be quite happy with, given the above-mentioned environmental stats.

Yes, its incredibly easy to supplement whatever you want into synthesised plant based products, so it could have better nutritional value than real milk if they wanted it to. But also... Do you really think the powdered cheese in kraft dinner has any nutritional value? Also, do you believe that people who eat kraft dinner care about the nutritional value they are getting from it? You add milk and butter to it generally anyways, so what does the cheese powder matter in the end?

Milk alternatives already make up 16% of the entire market for milk. And the offerings are diverse - soy milk, oat milk, flax milk, various nut milks. They fit different flavor profiles, and offer different advantages/disadvantages each other and cows milk, but all are better for the environment than cow milk.

All this is to say I fail to see anything particularly innovative about NotCo's version. I'm glad Kraft/Heinz is entering the market - they see the writing on the wall - but i think this is a marketing piece.

The takeaway for me is that heinz is seriously thinking about removing the unnecessary animal products as sources for their food where they can. Not only will this save them money, its better for the environment, and also, it would act as a proof of concept for other giant companies to do the same. At the end of the day, if it tastes exactly the same then this is an incredibly good thing all around.

You know, i thought the same but of new varieties are hitting the market. I think the veauty of it is we dont have to think of milk as a one size fits all kind of solution anymore. Ive found a creamer mix which finally approaches dairy half and half( and Silk’s new unsweetened oak/soy blend with 8 grams of protein is the best milk i’ve ever had for cereal, dairy or not.

My husband is allergic to dairy, nuts, oats, soy, wheat and corn- it is the only milk alternative (outside of coconut/flax/hemp milk 🤢) that we have found! And I personally think it’s the only milk alternative to hold a candle to dairy milk. Can’t even tell in coffee. I’m sad to see people be so dismissive of this brand because it’s been a lifesaver in my household

The beauty in dairy free milk alternatives is exactly the variety. I use a soy/almond blend for cereal and a nutty/oat blend for coffee. They each have their pros and cons, and im sure kraft’s will have find its niche in the market.

Haven't tried the not milk because I prefer almond milk but I did enjoy the not burgers but they're not sold in my city anymore. Probably one of the better imposter "meat" companies. I'm hoping the product doesn't get pumped with sugar trash with the merge

Nice, but honestly, how many people actually eat this products? I been eating a lot of impossible burgers and other veggie products since 2020 because nobody buy them at the supermarket and at the end of the month they put everything on sale, is really cheap for me, last week I buy like 30 packs of jerky beef from beyond meat at around 70 cents a pack, I don't mind to buy cheap and healthy food for me, but how much of this product ends in the garbage? Because every month is the same, in 2021 I buy a whole box of plant base tuna and I saw when they throw away 2 whole boxes of around 500 packs in to the garbage, what's the point of producing this food if nobody wants to eat them.

Kraft Heinz rates 6th (the lowest) for animal welfare according to the Business Benchmark on Animal Welfare. They were tier 4 in 2015 so have managed to go backwards. Perhaps it's a good thing they're getting into plants but I won't be buying their swill.

Plant based foods trying to masquerade as meat taste awful. Their texture and consistency are also way off. If you have ever tried these pseudo-meats, then you know how utterly dismal they are. Without major breakthroughs in taste improvement, plant based meat substitutes will remain a novelty product rejected by the vast majority of consumers.

All these fucking milk replacements are gross. Look at the ingredient lists. They're full of stabilizers, filters and chemicals that humans are not supposed to consume. Wonder why we're getting sicker? THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE! As a lactose intolerant person: If you can't have dairy, I'm sorry but just cut it out of your diet. Don't replace it with chemical. Same goes to vegans.

Milk is indeed made of chemicals, they've just been processed inside of a sophisticated machine bred over thousands of years, highly medicated and inbred to produce a product suitable for human consumption.

But milk was never supposed to be eaten by humans past infancy. There's nothing natural and normal about it, many, many humans cannot tolerate milk at all. The fact that some bodies have an adaptive gene that allows them to get the benefits of milk without being sick doesn't mean we should be drinking the stuff.
