Because I don't think it is. A.I. is a tool used in accordance with the philosophy of the human beings at the helm. It's an amplifier. So if something like unregulated capitalism is the sole driver of A.I. development, then yes--it will harm us and the planet.
But a tool in the right hands is useful and good, and can be turned to solving our worst problems. Environmental cleanup, healthcare, space travel, ect., can all be aided by A.I.-assisted research and automation.
There's a lot of potential good. Don't be scared until you have a reason to be.
