This headline is definitely playing off the fact people would assume it's maybe US or EU or something. Headlines like this infuriate me- communicating information is important but like everything else in our society the spirit of it has been stripped of value and optimized only to generate revenue, in this case in the form of engagement.

With the advent of more and more intelligent AIs that will enable us to automate more and more jobs, something will have to give. I could see the argument for a UBI that comes from a corporate profits tax rather than a payroll tax.
I know it's a touchy subject, but we really need to think about and address family planning for the futures sake. Ostensibly there are too many people and not enough resources currently. AI and tech may alleviate the crunch, but with the politicians we have, we're more likely to get terminator than a utopia.

The good news is if you're unemployed it's your problem. When everyone is unemployed it's the governments problem.
If the officials in charge would like the country to not decend into chaos with them on the receiving end of the backlash, someone will figure out a solution.
I suspect it'll be a couple of years of them trying to ban AI which will never happen and it'll be a waste of time and resources, and then something will actually give.

Not to be grim, but a bullet is cheaper than taking care of a lot of hungry people. I'm not political, but there has obviously been recent attempts to disrupt the election process. This would be an absolute nightmare and the masses would lose handily. Let's be honest, the American Govt doesn't care about any of us peons.

It'll be more expensive to fight everyone by a long stretch. It's literally cheaper to do nothing. Also, you can get about 25lb of flour for less than ten .308 rounds.

I'm not sure where you are at but .308 cost about a dollar each here. Flour is about eight dollars for twenty five pounds. Assuming 200% accuracy and soldiers who fight for free with zero causalities, it would still have been cheaper to not fire those rounds and feed 37 people for the day. But if you do fire those rounds, you can make more by shooting other things as human flesh might not net you as much in the food market.

Will we keep on seeing union membership increasing for instance? I know this is a trend in the US but it seems to be the case in other countries such as France that has seen a rise in union membership since the beginning of the year.

I mean we were all on lockdown and it was the most profitable year my store had seen. Ever. Everyone had record breaking profits even with no products in stock. That’s normal numbers though. Usual unemployment rate in the world is around 6%. It was a bit lower before pandemic (5.4%), increased in 2020 to 6.6%, fallen sharply in the next 2 years and projected to rise a bit in 2023 to 5.8%.
