Back in college I had a friend named Greg, I use the term friend loosely, you’ll understand in a moment.

Greg had a tendency to be the “voice of reason,” but in reality he was just a dick.

Examples:

Hey Greg I thinking about applying for the $5,000 Scholarship tomorrow!

Greg: “No you shouldn’t there’s much more qualified students.”

Hey Kary asked me to come over tonight for a movie do you think she’s into me?

Greg: “It’s probably out of pity. “

Hey I want to get buff I’m going to start going to the gym more this year!

Greg: “No man you’re not really the gym type, you don’t have the genes either. “

Then one day I decided Greg was a POS and I stopped talking to him as much.

I ended up applying for the scholarship, and won.

I ended up talking to Kary, and started dating.

I ended up going to the gym and getting big.

All because I stopped talking to Greg.

But you see Greg isn’t real, Greg was just my internal monologue, he’s not the voice of reason, just the voice of the shitty opinions of enemies past.

I named him Greg because everything he said to me came from a guy named Greg in High School.

To replace your Greg, start interacting with your Elijah.

Elijah usually says the opposite of Greg, but it’ll take some time for Elijah to get invested in your life because you’re used to spending so much time with Greg.

As you begin to replace time you would spend with Greg with Elijah, naturally Elijah will start popping in without you having to call him.

Be patient, it took me about three months to completely silence Greg by saying the exact opposite whenever he would chime in, and most of the time he was wrong.

Once I replaced Greg I started succeeding much more often.

Idk who your Greg is, but stop talking to them.

Love it! I call mine Ralph.

My apologies to any Ralphs out there. :P

Sometimes I just say, "Shut up, Ralph!"

I tell myself “shut up Dad”. It’s always in his voice too. Life is so much better now that I stopped talking to him

Acknowledge bad thoughts, reject them, and replace them with good thoughts.

there are different ways to do it. Personally I picture my bad thoughts as a physical object. I then visualize putting those bad thoughts into a locked safe, and then throw that safe into the sun. If they come back, I do it again.

I call mine Tina, and the replacement is Dick.

It's worked this week, he's batting 1.000 today.

I have to say that I enjoyed reading this. I totally talk myself of things all the time. This made me want to creat my own “friend” to use as part of a lesson I am writing called “I Can”.
