A company I worked for long ago paid for several of us, in sales/biz dev related roles, to attend one of these seminars.
For the first 30-40 minutes, you could see that Zig was building the audience up for his big "reveal" of how to be successful, etc.
I went along with his hokey mannerisms and outdated vernacular in hopes that there was something useful to be gained here, some way that I could find a kennel of knowledge to do better in my job.
Well, turns out that you just need to do what the bible says and you will be successful. His whole pitch was "be a good Christian" and success will follow.
I got up and walked out at that point. There was probably another 45 minutes to go and I was just so pissed that I had wasted time on that bs, because the job was difficult and I was working 100% commission and really was hoping to gain an edge. Worst presentation ever.

If you were being a good Christian, you would have genuflected on the way out lol

TIL:
Genuflect:
- lower one's body briefly by bending one knee to the ground, typically in worship or as a sign of respect.
"she genuflected and crossed herself"
- show deference or servility.
"her party still genuflects to her, and a core within it reflexively venerates her"

Reminds me of Clement Stone or whatever, positive mental attitude. Job I had selling insurance was big on pushing his rhetoric.
On the one hand, it's good simple advice, on the other the following is cultish and generally misguided/ borderline exploitative

Hah, you can't expect me to believe Zig Ziglar is a real name of a real person... I mean, if you're making up stupid names, at least try something more creative. Like Tu Morrow. Or North West.

I saw this tool at a corporate sales meeting years ago. He spent half of the time telling us how rich he was because he worked 20 hours a day ( and we could be rich if we followed his advice), then ended by telling us essentially that he wished he hadn't spent so much time working because his wife was sick. Talk about mixed messages.

I remember reading here a long time ago something along the lines of: “whenever u think ‘what if it goes wrong’ try to forcefully think ‘but if it goes right’ and focus on that”. I started doing it and it really really helps.

I went to a Ziglar seminar a long time ago. After the seminar I was hanging around with my boss, who said he knew Zig. Introductions were made and after a short time I was alone with this icon. We get to just bullshitting around and he asked me if I knew a good pawnshop nearby. My stepfather owned a pawnshop so I said yes I do. I drove Zig to my stepfather’s pawnshop so Ziglar could pawn his watch. Zig lived in Texas at the time, so I’m guessing he never returned for his watch.

Thanks Zig, my powerhouse 5, Zig ziglar, Jim rhon, Brian Tracey, Jim rhon, Les brown, and Jack Canfield, always got me through hard times, and will keep getting me through them, had a few of their books, and will get more of them, but what made me realize was, that I also have to be diligent and prudent in who your collaborators and converser’s are, via your circle group, of friendship, brotherhood and fellowship are, for as, these great men are our men who can guide us to prosperity by applying their disciplines and habits, it is the people who we work with directly that effects us, nothing will beat your Circle group.
But always a breath of fresh air to see these great men, thanks zig.
