Reminds me of a scene from Sanderson's Stormlight Archives:

Kaladin said. "You told me it will get worse." "It will," Wit said, "but then it will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth. I promise you Kaladin: You will be warm again."

Probably doesn't hit the same if you haven't read the series, but it's one of the moments like Robin Williams repeating "it's not your fault" in Goodwill Hunting that just tears down walls you didn't realize existed because you've grown so used to them being there.

Right? Like here I am a decade later, sober, single, and not that interested in mingling, when am I supposed to smile again? Or feel anything other than mounting dread at the futility of life?

I tried and I can't overcome it. I know that it won't get better and I know that I will never be happier than if things have gone different. My life in this timeline is completely doomed. Atleast i'm happy in another universe I guess.

If you can't overcome it, become someone else.

You don't actually know that it won't get better. It's also not certain that it will get better but if you believe in the possibility, then that can give you the strength to keep pushing forward instead of spiraling down.

Hang in there. Life is unpredictable. Happiness might find you tomorrow or in 10 years, but it's less likely if you give up on yourself.

We are bargaining with the future by making sacrifices now. Deferred pleasure. Deferred advantage.

HOWEVER, your best bet is to find a way to motivate yourself without needing the struggle to end. Don't hate the struggle. Love the struggle.

The day you stop struggling is the day your life has no meaning.

Just hold out little critters. One day that glitter will finally rinse off in the rain.
