A bomb of recognition just went off in my head. This is too true. And why didn't I realize this 60 years ago.

I'd say, stop seeking validation from anyone outside of close, personal relationships.

The motivation before this was, Don't quit now. You've got a lot of people to prove wrong.

Can someone explain to me how this is motivational?

Seems more like self-comfort and an excuse to not do things because people don’t believe if you.

I think what I means is if you ONLY do things for validation, especially from people who don't believe in you, you will never feel good enough no matter how much you achieve.

Instead, you must choose to validate yourself for your own accomplishments, and only then will you find sustainable motivation.

Examples: Should you eat right and exercise to look good for others? No, you should do it because you want to feel good and healthy.

Should you continue doing a thankless job? No, but if you know in your heart you are doing something noble for others and that is all that matters, then you will find it is worth doing.

Did that clear things up?

Man. Wait till you have a parent or family member that means the world to you, but just doesn’t want to appreciate how far you’ve come. This is a brilliant quote
