If you don't praise yourself, no one will. ))

And don't let the negative comments of others interfere with your own self image. Yes, you may have done something incorrectly but it isn't a reflection of your abilities. You can do an excellent job when you are properly informed.

I misread this at first and thought it was talking about a different kind of clapping.

Can someone give any tips? I have a hard time praising myself, it feels that I'm just being too easy on me, and it won't get me anywhere

What do you want to be able to say about yourself but feel like you cannot? Work on THAT until you can look yourself in the mirror and know you are that.

Thanks for the advice. But I think I expressed myself wrong. What I meant to say was that, even though I can praise myself, it doesn't feel real, like if someone else was doing. The feeling of being praised by me is a lot less exciting. But maybe this is normal, I don't really know

Thanks for the tip! Do you only find yourself doing them in times of need, or it's a routine? I wonder of how much it works when people are praising you.

I try really hard to do it everyday.. but do it at LEAST 4 times a week. Yes! I love praise from people but don't look for it. Another thing I Try and do daily is do one thing for me. Mine now is a bath and reading.

Instructions unclear, gave myself the clap

Problem is there are too many people clapping for themselves. With two deleterious effects:

  1. they are impossible to compliment with any sincerity, because they’ve already proclaimed their own awesomeness. And then they complain that no one compliments them on their achievements!

  2. they become impervious to legitimate and often necessary criticism. Think of the engineers of the building under construction in lower Manhattan that is tilting. Even with the example of the Millennium Tower in SanFrancisco that is tilting because they did not support it correctly, these Manhattan building engineers were likely high-fiving themselves for their ‘awesome’ work!
