I have newborn twins who won’t sleep at night. I estimate that my insomnia is due to that. I have no power to revoke it. Stupid quote

No, you don't. The body and brain are an interlinked machine, most thought is automatic, but more importantly most feelings are cause and effect. At an extreme end of this spectrum, if you're hallucinating due to dehydration do you have control over that? No. Consciously speaking we can take stock and redirect emotions, when given the opportunity to do so

Humans give themselves way too much credit for the power of consciousness, we are biological machines running on train tracks

I think the power of human consciousness is that we can set the switches. Which is pretty powerful in its own, don't you think?

I'd suggest you read some physics and philosophy, there's not an actual debate here.

It's not about what gives me comfort, it's about reality. If it helps you sleep at night to believe your experience of life, emotional reactions etc. are a result of your conscious mind, despite all evidence pointing to the contrary, then who am I to tell you otherwise.

Yeah but I'm sure those reactions get you jail time.

To be fair, there are some people who are forced to sleep on construction sites with all the noise. I think even noise can be filtered out if you are extremely sleepy.

But I think Marcus Aurelius refers to situations that can't be changed and must be handled. We have only the power to react the occurrence of actions is not in our control.

This quote obviously doesn't apply to literally every single possible scenario. Learn to interpret things and apply them appropriately. This would mean things like scenarios you have little info on but are getting worked up over unnecessarily. Obviously things like radiation poisoning and being robbed are outside of your control.
