Most of the zen is found on the climb.

ok, but remember to collect and bring all your zen back with you. no zen left on the trail.

zen in, zen out.

Yep, the best mountain climb I've ever done I had 5m vision at the top and it was basically worthless, but I'll always remember it because of the experiences and friend (singular in this case) I made along the way, and the downclimb in the middle of a storm which was hell at the time but now one of my fondest memories. It's all about the experience and what you take from it

Not true. Best part about hiking is feeling small, realizing you are infentismal in the sceme of the earth, and being grateful to be a part.

Agreed! I think it’s metaphorical - from “Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance” by Robert Pirsig. That peace & zen does not come externally, but something we must cultivate inside ourselves individually

This reminds me of the Adam Sandler snl skit where he is a travel agent and he keeps saying “if you are sad now, you will still be the same sad person on vacation”

Well now I have to leave my Zen at the bottom of the mountain to have space to carry you supplies!

At least someone else'll find it and go: "Free Zen! Awesome, now I don't even HAVE to climb the mountain!"

right! oxygen bottles, litter, bodies. there should be a sign, “Please bring your Zen back down the mountain when you are done”

I'd rather leave my Zen at home. It's too bulky to carry with me on a mountain climb.

Climbing the mountain and realising this is all part of the process.

Wherever you travel, you always bring yourself with you.

5

Reaper_Messiah t1_j5ynttv wrote

That’s kind of the point. Or rather, don’t expect climbing the mountain to fix your problems. If you climb the mountains IN ORDER TO find zen, then don’t bother climbing the mountain. Climb the mountain to climb the mountain, and find your zen separately.

I beg to differ. I went to Colorado to ski a few weeks back. I got off the gondola, queued up the Foo Fighters and sailed down…I’ve wanted to do that for about 40 years. There was plenty of zen up there.

1

wj9eh t1_j5vvs4k wrote

It was that you wanted that and that you achieved it, through your own effort. If you'd gone up there hoping to find that want, hoping to find the Foo Fighters, you would've been disappointed. But you brought that with you.

What songs did you play?

Yzerman_19 t1_j5vyfyz wrote

I played Everlong. I just love that song. Then I think I hit Breakout and Hero.

Hopefully in addition to the zen that they will "bring" up there they will also take some grammar as well.
