Hi folks!

I'm wondering how easy it is to park, especially in downtown Hartford and a bit of the deep downtown area? I know there are lots of metered spots and lots, but I'm wondering where there are usually spots available. Also, does this vary a lot? Are there any times of day or days of the week when you'd be lucky to find a spot?

Thank you :)

I think it really depends where exactly you’re going and what day of the week and time of day, as well as if you’re trying to find free parking or paid parking

I'm happy to pay. I'm mostly thinking of evenings and weekends but I'm interested in the availability of parking during work days as well. Really I just want to know the lay of the land! I'll be moving to the area in a few months and I'm trying to figure out the best place to live, which will depend a bit on whether I can rely on my car for transport most of the time.

Ooh okay that context helps! I work in Hartford and have lived in both Middletown and Manchester and have never really had any parking issues. Street parking in Hartford is free after 6 on weekdays and free on weekends. Weekends are almost always dead and I’ve always found free parking. If you don’t mind paying then I don’t foresee you ever really having an issue, as there are enough paid lots and garages around

Unless there is an event, Hartford has tons of parking (nearly 1/2 of the downtown seems to be parking lots) and the place is usually quite empty.

Second this - and just to be more specific for OP, the events you'll want to be on the lookout for are at the XL Center - street parking will be impossible then, but there's several garages in addition to the excess of lots so it's not really a challenge - especially since you recognize that parking having a cost commensurate to its demand is actually perfectly logical.

Besides that, street parking is easy enough to find, it's not really worth pointing out specific areas, and worst case scenario, the next block you go down will have a lot and/or garage if you happen to get unlucky that day.
