I am moving to the Hartford area in June and I'll be there until December. I know I am most likely staying in an Airbnb during my time there but am open to any other suggestions. I was wondering what neighborhoods in Hartford are safe. Right now I am looking at houses in West End, West Boulevard Historic District, Behind the Rocks, Southwest, and Barry Square areas. Are these safe areas? What areas do you recommend?

Berry square is kind of wild, behind the rocks a little less so, but the west end or downtown are the most stable parts of the city

I live downtown and love it. I find the public transit is super convenient (you definitely need a car but I take public transit whenever possible). There are lots of good restaurants, bars, museums, etc. It's definitely a quiet area compared to any other city I've lived in, but I feel very safe.

Agree with this comment. I loved mostly on the rougher side of the north end most of my life ( 28 yo) recently moved downtown as of last year and it’s night and day difference. I can actually enjoy being outside and walking around. There aren’t any good convenient stores and the rent is astronomically high but it’s worth it for the safety.

If I didn't live downtown (which I love and feel very safe in) I would live in the West End. Where are you moving here from?

I work as an Airbnb cleaner. Downtown around these XL center or in West Hartford are the safer areas in my opinion. My host has units in WeHa, XL center area, north end, and Bristol/Windsor. They only ones I'd consider staying in are the West and XL areas. Quality is also best in those areas if you want to be in Hartford directly.
