Hartford needs teachers like you! I encourage you to reach out to the school system and an organization called CREC.

CREC would be a good place to check for openings as they operate charter schools in several different towns. You might find a position that will have similar diversity to say Hartford schools without actually having to travel into and out of Hartford every day - traffic can get horrendous at times.

To clarify, CREC isn’t a charter school. It is a regional magnet school. There are lots of little towns in the “Capitol Region” and those little districts can opt into the CREC and pull from CREC’s resources, (therapists, school psychiatrist, IEP requirements, etc.) At the same time, students may opt into that magnet system and be bussed not a diverse setting.

I recently moved from Florida and am a proud public school advocate. I was amazed at how clever the setup is here!

As a parent of a 12 year student in the CREC system, I can say, at least in the 3 schools my daughter has attended, it was definitely more diverse than if she had attended school in the town we lived in.
