It's a state tax on your personal property, not technically a "car" tax. The rate you pay (mill rate) depends on the town you live in, and factors in the rough value of the vehicle(s) registered in your name.

It's a property tax, not an income tax.

I've never had to pay personal property tax in the states I've lived previously, but it's not uncommon -I think like 23 states don't have it?

BUT many have car tabs or additional registration fees instead which can range the gamut.

Everyone (with a car) in CT pays personal property car tax. The amount you pay depends on your town's mill rate (some have a different mill rate for vehicles) & the value of your car.

Is there a place in CT that doesn't tax owning a vehicle? It was my understanding it helps pay for road maintenance, etc - I have had to pay it in 2 cities in CT so far.

This really sucks. Hartford really needs to have more money for housing enforcement. It is severely understaffed.

One friendly tip: It's the landlord's responsibility to control mice, but you might be able to get rid of them for a while by putting out a bunch of traps. You can get a dozen on Amazon for a few dollars and they might rid the area of mice for a few weeks/months. Mice can be bad in a lot of suburban homes , in rich neighborhoods, too but it might be one thing that you can control if it's not a huge infestation.

I agree the Institute of Living is very good and it's right there. Yale New Haven Hospital and Silver Hill also offer excellent DBT programs. Silver Hill offers inpatient DBT treatment. It's hard to get in though because it's very expensive and exclusive. But they take private insurance. Utilize 211. They will direct her to a crisis line and someone may be able to come to the home to assess her. They can assess whether she needs to go to the hospital or arrange for an intake at a local mental health agency for services.

The barbershop definitely gets lit at night tho! lol. That’s usually where no matter what I do, people get close to hitting me while I ride my bike. Something about the intersection makes people want to hop the curb.
