You’re safe, just pay attention to ur surroundings cause a city is a city after all! also stay away from Park St. (not that close walking distance, but in case u plan on it in the future) :)

Try to get to the show early, if you don’t want to pay for parking. There’s street parking next to and behind the venue, but can fill up quickly depending on the event. I’ve been going to the Webster since I was a kid, you don’t have to worry about the area that much, but if it is in you concern, the closer parked to the venue the better.

I've biked and rode the bus away from The Webster. It's not the best area but It's hard to say it's actually dangerous.

Are you concerned about parking your car? Or taking the bus?

There's not really anything in the area open too late, so it's only really about getting to your transportation. Car is fine as there is a paid lot or plenty of street parking where you'll be amongst other concert goers.

Bus can be a little sketch because the stop is a little walk away.

Congrats! Most UConn grad students don’t live in apartments that undergrads are looking for so while under grads are looking now, many people aren’t even commuted to a grad school under the summer months. Lots live in Manchester, definitely some Vernon, and Willimantic is also popular and probably cheapest though do your research before committing. Some neighborhoods are safer than others. UConn has an office of off campus housing - they may be able to help too! Also you could ask your program. Often times grads find others in the same program to live with.

You can look in Willimantic, Willington, Coventry and Ashford (more out in the woods). I had quite a few friends living in Willimantic through grad school -- lots of houses / duplexes around. You might find other graduate students in r/UConn and you could email the graduate student senate for advice on finding a place.

That price range definitely seems feasible! I'd probably look primarily in Manchester and Vernon. I was renting a 1 bedroom pet friendly unit with laundry for 1440 last year before buying my house, so I imagine you'd be able to find a two bedroom in your price range. No harm in looking in advance and giving them your move in date to be waitlisted

Edit: forgot to say that I was renting in Manchester

You can also look in Vernon and Ellington which will be a little closer for your commute. If you submit an application and it is approved, they can put you on a waitlist for your move in date. (I used to working as a leasing consultant)

You’ll probably get more/better responses if you post in r/connecticut also, if you weren’t already planning on doing so. That said your budget seems realistic from what I’ve been seeing lately

The “safe” neighborhoods in Hartford are not affordable. Everything is a la carte nowadays, too. So rent might set you back $1500, but then utilities and other amenities will add another $500-$1000. I’ve always used FB Marketplace and Craigslist to find my apartments in Hartford. Also, hit up Becky Koladis for Hartford rentals: rkoladis@bhhsne.com

Ask her about Bushnell Tower. It’s a beautiful high rise right downtown with a remote control access parking garage below. The units usually come with everything included. Rents go from $1100-$3000/month.

Can you share more about what kind of social life you were looking for? Are you looking for lots of bars/breweries? Hiking groups & outdoor activities? More arts-related activities? Quirky markets and off-the-beaten-path activities?

West Hartford has a better night life than Hartford. Living in Newington or Bloomfield would be less expensive- check out Spark apartments.

I'm a part of the grad program this fall for UConn at the Hartford campus (25f) and me and my partner live in Manchester! Decent priced apartments and only a 15 min drive from the Hartford campus and not a bad drive away from the storrs campus (like 20 minutes but hardly any traffic)? As well as plenty of shops and stores, social life more than middle of no where, everyone around here is super friendly too! Lmk if you want any advice or a friendly face for grad program :)

It would depend on a few factors.

1.) How do you intend to get around? Will you have a car or do you plan on using public transit?

2.) When you say you're looking for a social life, what type of socialization? Do you mean you want to live near other students? Or are there specific kinds of social locations you care about? Bars? Parks? Hobby groups?

3.) What does your budget look like? Some towns in the area are more expensive than others.
