We can't compare direct democracy with modern democracy because of the people, the quantity of people and the media that has a massive influence on the population, and the modern perspective that we have after WW2. Nonetheless, War is necessary and legittimate as a mean to defend the nation, every single european country has a "normativa space" for cases like that.
« We can’t compare two different systems with different context » that both had the same result
Maybe because the point was that there was a third exterior factor « skewing » the results, like that people often want to go to war.
OP’s Thesis: People would not want to vote themselves into a war.
Facts: people did 2000+years ago, they would now, and will always be willing to do it.
OP is acting like Switzerland is Neutral because of their political system, when in fact it has no bearing on it, and the relevant analysis is through a geopolitical lens.
Sure.. usa and other countries that likes wars.. but most wouldnt
But the problem wouldn't be solved if "only" "usa and other countries that like war" would start wars, would it?
That would in fact be exactly the same situation we are in today. Most countries don't start wars. In fact, very few countries start or participate in wars.
Which means it didn’t « solve » war.
The other countries are not starting wars now either
So it would probably work now, when most people are civilized. People do t want war, leaders do..
People want revenge, people want honor, people want justice, people want food. War is merely the method of obtaining any one of those, all you need is a leader to convince the people it is the best way to go about it, and that is extremely easy. It was true two thousand years ago, and is still true today. People wanted the Afghan Invasion.
Swiss democracy in no way « solves » this problem.
How would the existing power structures be changed when it's specifically in the interests of those with the power to keep it as such?
How would you deal with decisions far too complicated to answer yes or no / for or against?
From what I’ve seen, Switzerland have some pretty big racism issue right now. What do you think of it in relation to the country having this good of a democracy ?
Let’s fix corruption first.
How much do you weigh?
Have you considered doing this AMA in r/EnlightenedCentrism?

Hello /u/CitizenThinker,
We require proof for all posts on r/IAmA in order to prevent fictional AMAs from taking over the subreddit. Your proof needs to be something that connects the fact that you're doing an AMA with your identity. This could be something like a photo of you in a work uniform or at a relevant location with a sign that has your username and the date. It could also be documents (partially redacted if desired) with a note that has your username and the date. We're happy for you to get creative with your proof as long as it makes it clear to a reasonable person that the person doing the AMA does meet the criteria laid out in the topic of the AMA.
You can add proof to your post by uploading it to an image hosting site like imgur.com and adding that link to your Reddit post by clicking the Edit button.
If you can't think of a way to prove your claims publicly, you can also submit confidential proof to the moderators at this link, though bear in mind it may take some time to review.
Here's a link to the section of our wiki that discusses proof.
Please edit your post and add new proof, and reply here to let us know. If your post is more than a couple of hours old, it may be more effective to create a new post and include the proof from the start. Thanks!
If you'd like to appeal, please click here to send a message to the moderator team.

I really like this idea and at least in Canada, where I come from, there is desperate need for democratic reform. However, how would you deal with issues of uneducated public?
Something, for example, like people in whatever province not knowing what is the jurisdiction of the federal and provincial governments.
Do you still live with your parents?

>Swiss democracy solves the war problem. Do you think people would vote for war if asked in a referendum?
Yes. Yes they would, if the casus belli was good enough or the target abhorrent enough, in a heartbeat.
In ancient Athens, where direct democracy was in place, all wars were declared by a vote of the citizens. They often declared disadvantageous wars because people aren’t strategists and feel strongly in the moment.
« Macedon demanded a higher tribute » « How offensive/disgusting! War it is! »
« Afghanistan did 9/11! » « We must avenge ourselves! »
« Poland hold our ancestral land » « How horrible! We must Free our Folks! »
