Most states have a minimum marriage age for minors with parental consent, ranging from 12-17 years old.

So it's illegal to have sex but legal to get married? That's really weird. Kind of glad I wasn't American/ backwards enough to understand this lol

Most places have what is called romeo and Juliet laws so you can have sex I think as young as 12 in many places. Of course age hugely matters to make it legal. That leaves out a ton of social and parental concerns

I believe it’s not illegal to have sex between an adult and minor so long as the parents consented. That was the purpose of the ultimatum. If you don’t understand, I can’t help you further.

I’m not sure what makes you believe these laws aren’t in effect all across the world, but they are, and your saying the law is backwards probably means your country’s laws are backwards as well, especially if the law doesn’t exist there. The law was put in place to protect people and families from child predators and well as protecting people who consent, from the law. If you think that’s backwards you’re obviously not American enough to have a shred of intelligence.

Most people consider allowing child marriage as the US does to be backwards instead of the reverse.

I didn’t say child marriage was normal. Its not common, and illegal in many parts of the United States. Nonetheless, the laws for sexual and marital consent where it’s allowed are there for those who consent, and protect those who don’t. If they made the legal age for marriage 21 or even 24 (when parents are no longer required to support their children, it wouldn’t affect most people in the US who are marrying much later or not at all.
