If you’re in northern Finland/Sweden/Norway there’s very little daylight in the winter. Sun comes “up” at 11AM and it’s dark by 1-2pm. And it’s often so cloudy you don’t actually notice the sun for weeks at a time

The opposite happens in summer and you'll occasionally hear North Alaska and other Arctic regions labelled "the land if the midnight sun" Some interesting panoramic photos if your Google-fu is strong

It's a fine joke, but not Dad enough for the "see myself out" tag.

I dont get it.

I thought it was to do with no daylight in winter months but then realised as the shortest day is 21st December the months given are 1 month before and 5 months after so that can be right.

Two Finn men having a beer and conversing:

  • Timo, I heard you've purchased a condo?

  • Yes.

  • How many rooms?

  • One.

  • Why so few?

  • Fewer had no sense.

It doesn't stay dark for 6 months, though.

I was actually in Fairbanks in June and it's pretty weird. I figured it would get kind of dark but the sun wouldn't completely go down but I woke up at 3 am in my hotel room, looked out the window and it seemed like noon.

Dad-joked version All the toys went missing at Santa's workshop. What was the first question Detective Elf asked the suspects? What were you doing the night of September 21st to March 21st? I'll see myself out.
