Exactly. God didn't want humans to have their own knowledge of good and evil. But Satan encouraged humans to obtain this knowledge by eating the forbidden fruit, and in doing so, he liberated mankind from blind obedience. When humans obtained a conscience of their own, they gained the ability to think for themselves.
