I always thought that joke worked better with silver instead of gold, because of misdirection.

I mean, obviously walking is better than winning gold at the Paralympics. Obviously. By replacing it with "What's better than winning silver?", it makes you think for a split second that maybe winning gold would be great.

But nope. Still going with the ability to walk.

Make it a combo joke:

What's better than winning bronze at the Paralympics?

Winning silver!

What's better than winning silver at the Paralympics?

Winning gold!

And what's better than winning gold at the Paralympics?

Walking!

But winning gold IS better than winning silver. Not as good as walking but still better than silver.

big_sugi t1_ja1pz15 wrote

Which is true, but doesn’t affect the fact that the joke is funnier with silver.

I don't think so, because when they inevitably come back with winning gold you can't exactly tell them they're wrong

What's better than writing a shit joke on Reddit?

Winning gold at the Paralympics.

Having worked with paralympians I am not telling myself anything. I am listening to them.

My bad. I thought we were cracking jokes here in r/jokes. I didn’t realize we were doing positive affirmation hour with Buzzkill McNofun.

Do you think they would appreciate the joke?

Man, most of their retorts are fucking awesome, Dylan Alcott was pretty fucking quick. Maybe if the joke was clever, then yeah for sure.

Ok_Climate_9254 t1_j9y3rb1 wrote

Iv never met the bloke but I feel like Dylan Alcott is a truely rare example of how good a human really can be with the right attitude towards the cards they have been dealt, with the life experience I have had I think maybe I would trade my ability to walk for his work ethic and attitude towards life.

Honestly, this was a much cleaned up version of the original version of this joke.

There was an even worse version of this joke. Instead of Paralympics it was Special Olympics. I’ll let you fill in the rest…

I disagree. The paralympics get recognition and praise. I don't ever get praised for walking down the street "correctly"

No recognition is good enough for most people.

I wish I knew who you were in real life so i could just follow you around every time you walk by and just start a slow clap, or maybe like one of those golf cheers after a putt, the ones that get louder and louder as the ball gets closer to the hole…

That’s not really a joke, it’s a super obvious fact,
