I arrived at an airport last night and needed a ride home. Uber and Lyft was going to charge me almost two times the amount on what I was charged to get a taxi. I fly on a monthly basis and this is now a financial game changer for me. Figured I'd pass on my positive experience with the masses.
I was at a work trip in the UK and for some reason the Uber driver told me that they know when the flights come in and they all turn off their app to make the rates go higher.
I was very annoyed at that. Even though my trip was 100% covered by my company, what about the times I'm just traveling on my own?
I didn't tip the guy. Fuck that shit.
That's the only way they can get decent pay. Uber and Lyft pay shit

Have taxi's gotten better? The last time I was in one, granted it was several years ago, it was shitty. Smelled like piss, the driver drove erratic, he smelled, and the car was in bad shape. At least with uber, you can review your driver. That's not a choice with Taxis.
It probably depends on where you are; but my experience with Uber and Lyft everywhere I’ve travelled has steadily gotten worse: price hikes, car smells like weed or cigarette smoke, driver is rude… I’d rather pay for a regulated industry ride that at least pays minimum wage to their drivers.

It can also substantially cut down on wait times. Just walk up to the taxi area and go.
Took a while for the cab industry to adjust and figure out how to survive, but they did it!
Depends on the country. In Poland it's opposite - the regular taxis, especially from airport, are the most expensive option.
I like that in Rome taxis have a flat rate between the city and the airport
Last taxi I took (in Germany) drove - at night - 150kph on Landstraßen and 120kph through towns/villages.

I think this must be region specific. Where I am taxi drivers will refuse to use the meter and demand twice as much compared to using something like uber.
Alternatively, I flew to Austin, TX recently, and a taxi was twice the cost of an Uber. So definitely not a hard and fast rule.
This is true especially after pandemic and with "peak hour" pricing by ride share services.
Yeah Uber and Lyft used to be the cheap alternative but now that they are more popular it has become more expensive than just hauling a taxi. I could’ve paid just $20 using a metered taxi, but the Uber price shows $50 its crazy how prices became so expensive for something that was once a great alternative to use.

We got so used to summon a cab with an app and forget other options. Thanks for reminding us.
For me this never worked. Brazil, Paraguay, France and India is always been cheaper go with apps.
Taxi line worked really well at LAX, compared to the apps. In Chicago though I paid almost $20 more and the driver also complained about a $10 tip on a $55 ride. Ride apps are good because they tell you the price BEFORE you get in, cabs can be cheaper but you don’t truly know until you’ve arrived at your destination

Some airports don’t even allow ride shares on the grounds. They make you walk to a satellite lot.
Portland, OR. airport taxis are 40% higher than Lyft / Uber.

Ride share was needed to lift the shitty service of taxis which has mostly been accomplished.
There is no use and no value to ride share any more they are expensive rapist rip off thieves (more so than taxis)

The tip here is not to forget that taxis are an option. Taxis have published rates, whereas Uber and Lyft raise prices during peak times. Therefore, a taxi can be less expensive or more expensive and it's on the consumer to evaluate the costs and compare.
