they talked abt their region

It's an illusion, basically the core illusion of Facebook itself. Regardless of the region. Facebook is not essential for school, work and contact with family. Nowhere. It may be a convenient way to keep in touch. It is not essential.

uhhh I understand you but I don't agree. I don't have the numbers of any of my colleagues and most of the stuff/homework/news for uni is posted in the representative groups. It's posted nowhere else and I'd have no way to even ask anyone what's been posted because I don't know them personally, just through facebook chat. You're looking at the bigger picture and missing the details where individual experiences differ. Yeah maybe if we all stopped it would be awesome because it isn't essential in its base to any of us, but you can't convince anyone to just stop using it because you want to pull yourself away from it.

This. Something similar but in a different context: I deleted my fb and the result was I had to annoy individual people for info who would eventually reply with "just go look in the group". Now to them I'm the entitled asshole who asked for special favors. So now I'm back to fb, and some ppl are grumpy.

tomatomuffin t1_jefrfwz wrote

Yeah exactly what I'm saying. I deleted it once too and didn't realize until later how many people I lost contact with and couldn't find anywhere else, especially in my region where fb is the most used social media ever since it came out.

I do this off and on and I always feel better, I'm going on 2 months now and hope this time is permanent.

I'm trying as well, but facebook is more networking than anything else, but recently it's been less of that.

I did this for a month and I felt the happiest I have been in 10 years and my productivity skyrocketed! You will start to realize meaningless stuff doesn’t have a space in your life anymore but also just how precious time really is. I felt a overwhelming sense of gratitude and I started to want to learn new skills and things. You will also realize just how many people are not present at dinners, outings and in life.

Best thing I’ve done for myself. Spoiler alert I felt better after deleting social media. Still haven’t got the desire to get back on

I think it's much better to just not use it and then check it once a month or so.

Honestly, where is facebook still used? in EU as far as i know is just for old people that spam emojis and fake news, is it still relevant in Us?

FoxMulderMysteries t1_jea2q2o wrote

Not necessarily. I very rarely use my social media accounts for anything personal. I have to use them quite often for work, though.

Anything and everything can be bad. It is up to the individual how they act and how they consume whatever it is that they consume.

These things are designed to be addictive. These companies are incentive to make them as addictive as possible for profit no less

2

HHegert t1_jea8h6t wrote

Sure, I agree. But so are many other things designed to be addictive and while they can be bad and there are bad sides to these things, they are not entirely a bad thing, in my opinion. Social media has created businesses, keeps people connected across the world etc etc. Of course people are different and for some it is better to “quit” whatever said thing is, but is that entirely said thing’s fault? No.
