This is very dependent on the employer. I’ve worked at places that will automatically trash any applications that “go around their system “ because they paid a lot of money for it and have to prove it’s value.

It also proves you can’t or won’t follow directions.

Call the HR department and ask first

This is correct. I've been on a number of hiring teams and many locations would not like this at all.

That actually makes no sense. There is very rarely instructions in job postings telling you not to contact them. And your app isn’t “going around the system” they still have to view it, you are simply messaging them letting them know you are interested in their position. I think you might not have a good grasp on how it works.

“Apply through the online portal” is usually the instruction.

It all depends on the specific business.

For this LPT it actually doesn’t. If you CAN message on indeed you SHOULD. You wouldn’t be able to message them if the employer hadn’t enabled the feature.

I’ve had a similar experience to the person you’re replying to. Not sure why you feel the need to diminish their experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody told me different workplaces handle various tasks very differently

Contacting the employer through the app they posted their job on is not “going around the system”. It’s not diminishing anything I think they fundamentally misunderstood my post.

So you are saying contact the employer directly but through indeed? I agree your post seems to lack clarifying details and thus is causing confusion

It’s literally in the title.

Title unclear, contacted employer directly through company site and was rejected. LPT: Be clear in your messaging and don’t be so defensive

“When applying to jobs on indeed” I was intentionally specific. Indeed has the capability to message employers.

It’s not clear my friend, i would apply on indeed and then find a way to message an employer DIRECTLY rather than indirectly through a third party site per your instruction. I don’t know what to tell you. Let’s both be wrong and move on who cares

What? Lmao omg if you would do that, no wonder you have had a “similar” experience as the person who commented.

I wouldn’t, that’s why I’m advising the advice you gave, the way it’s being interpreted, is not good

Well for anyone who was unclear, if this little back and forth didn’t clear it up I got nothing for them.

I understood what OP was saying...I was confused how to do so but This link OP provided , explains that if the employer chooses to do so, they can set up a "Post-App follow up question". This is not skirting the process if the employer enabled this response on Indeed.
