But do they ever taste good? Our daughter taught our great Dane to open his mouth wide, and she just sticks it in the back after his tongue. He has to do it every day for life. If we hide it in food, he discovers it every single time and ejects it.

I have tried this with my dog and in her first instinct she smells it and rejects it but when I break a piece and place it in her mouth she seems to eat the rest of it. But I suppose different things have different taste and dogs may not like the taste of everything.

Ya, every dog is a bit different. Just work down the list of options and find the one that works.

I like sticking it in a piece of bread and mushing it in a ball. For a picky dog, sometimes I’ll put some BBQ sauce on it.

And if it doesn't taste good you're screwed?

I just ask her if she wants a treat and gave her a pill instead. Silly girl was too excited for a treat that she just gulped it down. I usually felt bad for tricking her and gave her a piece of cheese after but she never caught on to the trick. She would also sneak and eat cat poop though so 🤷‍♂️
