Like every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. The way it is used about sharing the work to get things done faster is a newer meaning, it's a little confusing.

LPT: “Divide and conquer” means to cause infighting between what you are trying to conquer, therefore making it weaker as a whole. It does NOT mean that you team up with someone and each conquer half.
