A flat earth can still be round.
The earth is a SPHERE
There, how does it feel to be proven stupid?

I used to agree but have since found out that the earth is actually slightly flatter than a sphere due to centrifugal force.

I agree but you did sound a bit aggressive when saying that

Exactly.
As does your post.
Why on earth do you think making someone feel stupid is a pro tip?

I agree. My post was a little bit aggressive from all the wording. I would say that making someone feel stupid can be useful for changing someones mind or to settle an argument faster. Think about it.
It makes you look like you’re not stubborn to your argument, makes people accomplish their goal of influencing someones mind, and can make an argument less intense because you seem open minded

Making people feel stupid rarely changes their mind.
“I used to agree but” usually just makes people feel betrayed.
Better to just ask questions: “Thanks for sharing that. Did you read the study where it says…?”

I don't think people talk like that right now... and the post is for those people who are just lunatics.
Em_Adespoton t1_iu9jzri wrote
For those people, just raise an eyebrow and walk away. Don’t pander to them, validate them, or give them any suggestion that they are in any way reasonable.

Good alternative.

Great idea. You gave me another tip on what to say
“Thanks for sharing that” can cause temporary acceptance. You aren’t saying they’re wrong, which is what they want, but at the same time, give them information to process that can settle an argument quickly and easily
This argument itself is a great example because I actually learned something as well, and it encourages thinking. Without the “I agree”, arguments like “you’re stupid/stubborn” and then your claim sound terrible
They will have fewer good comebacks to use but the way you can fuck up someones emotions with a few words is stupid

You change people's minds when they have respect for your expertise on the subject, not when they feel stupid around you.
Live your life so that you are approachable and contemplative.
