Might be easy to start, but it's not easy to make it successful
Making liveable money doing podcast requires putting a lot of work into development, content, production, and editing.
And then you also have to talk about something that people want to hear and haven't already got 100 podcasts to choose from on.

Exactly. Unless you're already famous it'll take years of sustained effort just to break even..
It's a lot like books and apps. There's millions out there so the successful one spend a ton of money on advertising and still can't break even.

Nor do you need to have any talent or any intelligent opinion of any kind

"To start," yes, but releasing content consistently that people actually want to listen to is what either tanks podcasts or turns them into essentially full-time jobs. Not to mention you'll probably go for a while without revenue, unless you use your podcast to promote an existing revenue stream.

You just need something interesting to talk about, something intelligent to say, and a bit of personality.
Unfortunately, 99.9999% of the population fails the last two criteria.

There are around 2.5 Million podcasts. Creating another wont earn you a cent in your sleep.
