I just discovered this trick! I was always unhappy with getting tap temperature water (and didn’t want to use ice cubes made of unfiltered water), so I started filling the top from the tap and then adding some ice cubes to make sure every pour is nice and cold. Enjoy!

I keep a gallon jug of tap water in the frig, this is the water I pour into the Brita.

I filter several pitchers of water while I'm cooking or doing dishes and pour all the water inva separate, larger pitcher to keep it in the fridge. I also fill the Britta one last time and put that in the fridge. I drink lots of water, and don't always want to wait for it to filter.

Alternatively, I have a Brita that I kept in my fridge that I hardly used for a year because I dislike cold water and ended up grabbing bottles of room temperature water, and it took me a year of being dumb before I realized that just because it was a fridge Brita it didn't mean I actually had to keep it in the fridge. Now I keep it in sight on the counter and I use much less bottled water.

The ice cubes are above the filter, so as they melt they get filtered.

You would have to add a filter to the ice maker’s water supply line before it got to the freezer if there’s no internal filter already. A plumber could plumb this for you pretty quickly. Even better, ditch the pitcher and install a Reverse Osmosis filter. You can run the ice maker supply line right from your RO system.
