Or get an electric toothbrush. a good one is as cheap as $20. not only does it kinda gamify the process, it removes a lot of the work, and ensures you won’t spend more than the recommended 2 minutes on brushing.

Stick a travel brush and toothpaste in your backpack, or car, or office desk for the days you dont brush at home. Or, go one step further and keep a travel hygeine bag.

My dentist has given us so many toothbrushes we haven't had to buy one in years. We bought the electric anyways, but we have so goddamn many regular ones we just give them away. Like, I have at least twenty. I feel like vermin supreme, but maybe vermin minor or something my boots aren't as cool as his.

Also water flosser is easy when you don't want to brush. Better than nothing

I’m not a dentist or anything, but this seems like terrible advice. It doesn’t take all that much effort to brush your teeth. It doesn’t take more than a minute to floss your teeth either… And I know many people don’t do that (I didn’t do it for a long time). But brush your teeth folks. Twice a day at least. Don’t over brush, and be careful of your gums.

If anyone can't find 4 minutes total in their day to maintain their teeth, then fuck them.

Way to set the bar low, what a shitty tip

If it only takes a minute then why not use that minute to brush?

Just commit to brushing one tooth. You’ll probably do the rest while you’re there

Well depression is a bitch. I struggle with this too because sometimes I am so mentally exhausted that I can't even take my jacket off and I need 2 hours to get out of bed because I always want to off myself after waking up. It's a terrible disease

Listerine, a mouthrinse composed of a mixture of essential oils, was created in 1879 and was originally formulated as a surgical antiseptic. In spite of its known antimicrobial properties it was thought of as a product in search of a use and promoted as a deterrent for halitosis and as a floor cleaner.

I understand why "just go to the gym" type tips, or just do it for 5 minutes, would work. Because once you're already there you are likely to do more.

But in the gym example you could just leave and you have at least tried. You did something and it's at least progress.

To commit to brushing one tooth wouldn't work for me because I would automatically jump to the future situation of actually being there, holding the toothbrush only brushing one tooth. Obviously I might as well at least run the brush over all the teeth while I'm at that point.

Which is why it wouldnt work. It's too obvious of a trick and could be equated to actually brushing your teeth. There is no real separation between the two.

Dental Hygienist here. While using mouthwash will help reduce the overall number of bacteria in your mouth (for a time) and introduce some fluoride into the equation to help with tooth remineralization, it won’t remove plaque. Plaque that is allowed to sit in place for more than 24-48 hours will become calculus (aka tartar) which can only be removed in a proper dental setting. If not removed it will lead to gum inflammation and act as a harbor for bacteria that cause decay.

That being said brushing twice a day and flossing once a day are generally all you need to keep your teeth and gums healthy and prevent costly dental bills in the future. I guarantee the money you spend on any mouthwash is wasted if you’re not brushing and flossing first.

A fluoride mouthwash is what you should be looking for. ACT, Listerine, etc will have fluoride. Some mouthwash products have alcohol and some don’t but that’s not really a factor in the effectiveness of the mouthwash.

If you can’t take care of everything about yourself, you deserve the results and medical bills. That’s better motivation than mouth wash. Imo.

Another variation: I'd skip brushing my teeth at night 'cos the minty taste would wake me up, making it harder to fall asleep.

Dentist told me to just brush w/o toothpaste. The majority of the cleaning happens from the act of brushing, not the toothpaste.

fred_cheese t1_iu6m4up wrote

I could. After dinner means pondering dessert after a slight digestion period is out of the question. Basically my issue was I'd go to bed when I felt tired, not at any particular time.
