I’ve tried this with no luck.

Do you mean you can't open the banana from the bottom?

Or that there are still strings attached after you peel the banana from the bottom?

B.

But option A would make sense too.

bitofarambler OP t1_its39v4 wrote

Dang, you are the first person this hasn't worked for. And I have told everybody I know at this point, haha.

The "bottom" is the part with the small brown patch, no stem. If you peel from that part, all of the strings stay attached to the peel when you peel it off.

If that doesn't work, best of luck in your cursed blursed life.

create360 t1_itsha6f wrote

Ha. Maybe I’ll give it another try. I just tried it 3 weeks ago after remembering this ‘trick’

And thanks for clarifying which end is the bottom. :P

I’m the 2nd person it doesn’t work for. I still had strings when peeling from the bottom

GrimExile t1_ittejmb wrote

If you think about it, the part you call the bottom is actually the top of the fruit. The side with the stem is the side attached to the plant, and as such, represents the bottom of the banana. We've just been looking at bananas wrong our entire lives.

It also gets rid of satans anus at the end

Linvael t1_ittuld0 wrote

Does it? Last I tried opening from that side it just felt like I left the anus at the start, which was not an improvement.

whats so bad about the strings though

4

bitofarambler OP t1_its2v1q wrote

They're bitter and just make the fruit experience a bit messier.

Proud of you for standing up for banana strings though, that hill you're dying on is not crowded.

as a person that eats bananas even when they already are brown and very soft slime like even, I also like to defend my friends the strings. Thanks for aknowledging the strings. They are an essential part of the banana and very underappreciated.

bitofarambler OP t1_itv05fg wrote

I doubt you are using the word "essential" correctly, but I am glad that our friend now has your support.

GrouchySquash8923 t1_ityjddg wrote

essential contains the word "essen" which is german for eat. So i think it fits xD.

bitofarambler OP t1_ityko5k wrote

"They are an eattial part of the banana partly in German...". I recline corrected. This makes perfect sense.

Just rip in half by pulling from both ends

I never looked back when I learned this tip.

idc2011 t1_its64e5 wrote

To do this you have to bite the end. Do you wash your banana?

1

bitofarambler OP t1_its774c wrote

No biting required!

I don't generally wash fruit with peels so no washing the banana first. It's pretty easy to make a notch with a thumbnail or a knife or really anything, But usually you can just peel back that little brown patch and it'll catch on to the peel behind it.

Coba34 t1_itsxr58 wrote

The downside is you become one of those annoying people that brings it up every time a banana is in sight

1

bitofarambler OP t1_itt0zvy wrote

It's okay, you just slowly sprinkle it into conversations over about 5 years, because it's an obscure enough fact that every time you bring it up spread out and in a new group, people are like. Oh yeah cool I should try that, and it has always worked 100% of the time in my real life. So it's 100% satisfying every time.

BJMRamage t1_itt6qw9 wrote

I feel like pinching the top of the banana works best. I know I have had issues when the bottom/stem part bends but usually the top of the bananas are super easy without a fault.

1

ramriot t1_itti7p3 wrote

Really depends on which way up you hold it though.

1

RR_Hotwire t1_ittmlm9 wrote

You gotta lick the banana peel after though... It's the full experience 😂

thatguysaidearlier t1_itu0dm5 wrote

LPT The strings are very nutritionally dense. You should eat them, for you are a grownup.

1

Beautiful_Lake_5608 t1_iu4wgyx wrote

I thought this is nice and i should try it but then i remembered i am someone who even licks off the white portion of banana skin.

1

bitofarambler OP t1_iu4zymk wrote

For the tingle? Hey, we need a breadth of players on this world stage, so good for your banana-licking ways.

2

kharjou t1_itsogel wrote

Why not do it the normal way and cut them directly in slices. The skin lets you hold the slices without dirtying your finger and its perfect with the mustard

bitofarambler OP t1_itspyku wrote

I was not brought up in this obscure tradition. Best of bananas to you though.
