Edit: If you’re the kind-hearted neighbor giving out full-size candy bars remember that some of those darlings have phones and immediately give your address to others :) Buy a lot!

The real tip is to buy an exorbitant amount and justify by telling yourself there may be many kids. Then enjoy your 20 bags of candy leftover.
That’s the spirit of Halloween to me! 🍭
Also having kids and taxing their candy haul.
I hate these “tips” on how to handle handing out candy. There are no rules. Buy as much or as little candy as you want to hand out. That’s all you need to do.
No by not just know how much candy you bought and add up the remainder after instead of having to count and marl life all night?
Not only that this is the most inefficient way to do it.
Know how much you bought. Look at the remainder after and that’s your candy count instead of marking every kid.
I did too. But I love the spirit of Halloween; those last few stragglers will get handfuls of treats.
My folks did that, I did that. Last 2 years no kids. Not even one. Still have 2 bags of candy anyway cuz if we get some this year they will get handfuls.
I've had 2 trick-or-treaters in 35 years. I keep a Sonic peppermint around, just in case.
My mom did this. She would get ~360 kids some years.
I get between 1 and 3 every year. And they get to split a Costco bag of candy between them.
We haven’t had any kids for the last 8 years. Somehow the two boxes of mixed chocolate bars never go to waste. Waist, maybe. Definitely not waste.
Yup. We just moved in and didn't know how many to plan for. We got 4 bags thinking a new neighborhood with lots of kids meant a huge turnout. We ended up handing out 4 pieces per kid just to finish off the first bag.
I got 1 in 2020 .. 4 in 2021 .. hope for 7 in 2022
Or not having kids and living at the end of a long, private, dirt road.
Then ALL the candy is mine.
You are awesome!
63!!! We had over 400 Saturday night!
This is the real LPT
Lol to save an annual what = $3.18. This is cheap not really a life tip
I am ready for 1050. Yes, 1050 fortune cookies. We have at least 800 kiddos per year.
Where do you live? I’m in the Chicago Suburbs.
The price of candy won't be the only thing inflated this Halloween!
Where do you buy fortune cookies in bulk?
We have moved multiple times. I always ask at least three different neighbors and average that. We have lived in areas where ten big bags was barely enough and where a single bag had leftovers. This year we did small toys plus candy. Got around 100 last year. Hope to see that many again!
Pro tip: do not let kids pick from the bowl or keep a bowl outside. Open the door, put 2 chocolates in the bag.
I just buy a ton and at the end of the night I dump the remainder in the last kids bucket. Usually makes a kids night.
We've had a total of 3 trick or treaters to our house in the past 8 years. Every year I still buy a shit ton of candy and tell my wife it's "just in case" but we both know the real reason, lol
I'm betting that there will be far more than 63 this year. We did not trick or treat the past two years because of covid. We are tonight though.
Who are you? Monk's brother.
Remember that show? its was in a Halloween episode
Don’t forget that all the candy in stores will be discounted afterwards, probably pretty heavily
I get a large amount of candy, hand it out by the handful, and go back inside and turn off the lights when it's gone. You're sad you didn't get to the house that hands out the equivalent of 3 king size bars? Get here sooner next year.

My dad used to finish the first two bags of candy before October 15th

I’d go for the three pound bag of Twizzlers. Instead, I bought Milk Duds, Skittles and Starbursts - candy I don’t care for.
I’m in shape. Round is a shape.
Shhh that is a secret
Thought this was life pro tips...
Small town in OH, folks come from WV! Gotta love a small town!
Grew up that way. We had one trick-or-treater in 10 years. It was dark too. My dad went fish that guy out of king size from my mom's smore stash
When we used to decorate and get hundreds of visitors, we would buy bags of lollipops and just made sure to give one lollipop out to every person. At the end of the night we would just calculate the difference remaining to see how many people visited. That way it's a simple extra treat and an easy way for you to keep track!
This is what I do - I label all the full sized candy bars and goodie bags (for the little kids) that I have to give out, and then at the end of the night, I subtract what (if anything) is left, and I have my number!
This year I started with 48 goodie bags and 133 full sized bars. I'm guesstimating that I'm 80% through them all ... so far.
14 so far today, 6 last year. i had leftover candy that lasted me almost the year :-)
