LPT:Kid throw stuff near your tv? Protect it.

FYI this was my brothers idea and quite a simple one.

Measure your tv from side to side, not the screen but bezel included. Go to a Home Improvement store and have them cut up a sheet of plexiglass for the required dimensions. Get Velcro,tape,glue, or some other way to mount it to your set and have at it. The plexiglass glass will absorb more force than the LCD and depending on how far the bezel protrudes from its body pretty much nullify most hits from a remote.

My niece (who is on the asd) back in the mid 00s threw a toy car and DVD through his large projection TV. He luckily had it insured and was able to have the screen repaired repaired. He did this and the thing lasted for over a decade of constant use until the CRT projectors needed replacing and he just got a LCD.

Yeah, I'm just gonna hope for the best lol. I've got a very strict no throwing shit in the living room rule and the kids seem to abide by that one pretty well. They know it's about the only thing that daddy will freak out about. Plus they're both little nerds too and I threatened that if anything ever happened to it, that it's replacement would be going in my room and they will be gaming on a 42in 1080p TV from 2012 indefinitely.

I mean I’m with ya, I don’t desire it myself cats dogs and maybe a chinchilla or two. But I’ve been seeing a lot of people lately having trouble with their kids on the spectrum destroying TVs tablets phones and consoles because they get so hyped up and you know. I really didn’t know where else to post this for ppl to see.

Wouldn’t it be much simpler to just get a projector instead? Or what we did- buy cheap tvs for the kid areas and nice ones for the kid-free zones (man cave, master bedroom, etc).

I agree but it’s less than half the price and stronger than the tv protectors which are usually less than a 4th of an inch thick vs what ever you want with the plexiglass and to the correct size to boot. But for the plexiglass it will cost 5 to 10 dollars vs 30 to 40 for the tv guard stuff. My niece broke through an early tv protector and cracked a tv and went back to this method because she still as an adult gets hyped and throws remotes/controllers. But yeah kids should have a cheap tv lol.

So, the LPT here is to put plexiglass over the TV and then you can have a kid on the ASD spectrum? I don't think that's how it works.

My bar just bought four Samsung Terrace outdoor TVs at almost $5k a piece. One of them is already toast. A security guard was helping stow the chairs at the end of the night and barely tapped the TV with the leg of a chair, and now there’s an 8” black ribbon from top to bottom of the screen. Samsung sent some bozos out to look at it and they said “It’s not covered”. Even if you sign up for Samsung Care+, the TV still wouldn’t have been covered. I’m still scrambling to find some way to protect the Other three TVs. I’m still skeptical that the tiny gap created by two pieces of velcro, holding a 1/4 or even a 1/2 inch piece of acrylic plexiglass would protect the screen from a decent impact, like that chair, or say a drunken guest throwing a bottle or glass at the TV. (People do that). I learned later that Samsung offers business accounts, where a business can pay a monthly fee to have Samsung provide TVs and replace them when necessary. We’re talking about hotels and such -say 60 TVs for the whole business. Need help!
