FYI this was my brothers idea and quite a simple one.
Measure your tv from side to side, not the screen but bezel included. Go to a Home Improvement store and have them cut up a sheet of plexiglass for the required dimensions. Get Velcro, tape, glue, or some other way to mount it to your set and have at it. The plexiglass glass will absorb more force than the LCD and depending on how far the bezel protrudes from its body pretty much nullify most hits from a remote.
My niece (who is on the asd) back in the mid 00s threw a toy car and DVD through his large projection TV. He luckily had it insured and was able to have the screen repaired repaired. He did this and the thing lasted for over a decade of constant use until the CRT projectors needed replacing and he just got a LCD.
