A restaurant gave me fries by accident but I don't want them now. But I hate taking french fries home because I either microwave them for a minute and they become hard as a rock, or a put them in the air fryer and they become super crispy! Is there anything I can do to keep my french fries soft when I reheat them? I'm a freak and I like my french fries as wet and limp as possible.

Wait. So you don't want crispy fries?

....

Okay. So for starters, you should be in jail.

However, you can just throw them in the microwave for a bit less time with a glass of water next to them inside of the microwave as well.

Wait fries don’t get soggy in the microwave? But everything else does, that’s so weird.

You already mentioned the life pro tip: throw old French fries in the air fryer

What you're asking for is not a life pro tip. You want a Weird Niche Tip.

I don't understand. By your own acknowledgement:

Microwave them with a bowl over the top of the plate there on or a plate over the top of the bowl they are in, and if necessary sprinkle a little water in.

Or if you are truly dedicated to the craft, got a steamer basket for a pot, and boil your choice of a half inch or 1 cm of water in the bottom of the pot, put the fries in the steamer basket, and put a lid on the steamer.

Microwave at 30% power for about twice to three times as long as you normally would.

I have never had reheated via microwave fries be crispy. You must be way overheating then. 15-30 seconds.
