The tools I use most as a home owner, car owner, bicyclist:

Four-in-one screwdriver, allen key set (get the kind that folds like a pocket knife so they won’t lose any keys), needle nose vice grips, 3/8” socket set, hammer, and a utility blade.

If you’re generous: Cordless drill and drill bits

It really depends on the person. Giving tools to the typical middle aged guy would be a little like giving a frying pan to a woman. Maybe they could use it, but probably not.

A set like that would be a nice gift for a young woman in college or someone getting out of the house and into their own apartment for the first time.

But the middle aged guy can get this new set to replace his old one if they're greasy or worn down.

I'm a middle aged guy who would be happy to have more tools to put in the trunk of my car or inside the house so I don't have to run to the garage every time I need a tool.

Your 4-in-1 is actually a 6-in-1 since you can take the bit out and reveal a ¼ or ³/¹⁶ socket typically too!

Please don't buy me tools. I already have ones I like. They are organized. Don't need to mess with my organization with duplicates. I'd just regift it.
