Thank you, this one is simple but effective. I've been stung a few too many times but looking at general ratings rather than the most recent reviews.

Im surprised they don’t ship with fake reviews printed right on the packaging

So fake 5 star reviews can never be “recent”?

Funny, I just look at the 3-star reviews. 1s have a chip on their shoulder, and 5s are mostly fake. 3s have a nice mix of pros and cons.

Amazon has also hacked up the "sponsored" offerings so when you search, the first few listing are paid ads followed by 3 or 4 real results and then more paid results. Watch out for "sponsored" when searching.
It amazes me how a product than have 71% 5 star ratings and 5% 1 star ratings and yet still be a 4.5 star product overall. Shows you they skew it to sell more stuff.

Less common. Typically 5 star reviews are bought in bunches, usually to kick-start the popularity and credibility of something. If the reviews have been suffering lately, then more might be bought though, and you might catch it at that time.

Amazon doesn’t limit/inspect seller goods so most of what you’re getting is trash. Countless docs and articles on the surge in Chinese retailers so expect counterfeits and low quality. It’s tougher (and often costs you shipping fees) to get refunds on items from individual sellers rather than if Amazon is the supplier, too.
