Be they economic downturns, environmental changes, or potential health concerns: the most helpful thing one can do to handle any associated challenges is to understand what can and cannot be controlled by you, the individual, in each moment. Most often, the only thing that can be reasonably controlled is your own reaction to stimuli.

Resiliency isn't bred from general awareness of problems, either - it's a product of preparedness. Treat your body with respect and your own mind with gentle, loving kindness. Don't let external forces prevent you from setting goals for self-improvement. If emotional stability and physical well-being can line up, even sporadically, the chances of navigating difficult situations with greater ease goes up, and it's a feedback loop: the more it's practiced, the easier it is to sustain. Optimism is a more valuable currency in times of difficultly than it is in times of tranquility.

I think you have that backwards ... Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Ultimately, you will be caught off-guard far less, and end up "scrambling" far less often.

I don't. Anticipating the worst all the time leads to a bunker mentality that leaves people feeling hopeless and limited in their options.

But if you prepare for the best the worst will ruin you

Agreed! You make your own luck (at least more often than not).
