Only for a short while. Any regular lubricant is going to do a much better job.

No, it’s also not a lubricant. It’s a soap aka surfactant.
How about lithium grease, machine oil, or teflon dry lubricant.
Seriously WD40 is great for getting rusty things freed up, but it’s not a good lubricant for long term work.
