If you want this to be a true LPT instead of a rant, it would help to leave some tips for how others can practice active listening.

This is something I'm actively working on. I have to truly focus to not talk over the other speaker. I'm getting better day by day.

Definitely me too, I have to actively engage on listening rather than thinking my next sentence

I don’t think it’s actually a problem with the lack of respect. I think people are so wound up in the noise in their own heads, they can’t actually hear you.

My biggest issue is remembering what I wanted to say after a long winded statement. So, I try to keep it in my head to ensure I remember it. But yes, then I lose out on things being said.

To many people don't know how to have a conversation.

They listen to someone talk, and as soon as they can, they take over and talk. It just takes me to mention one key word or place and a friend takes over and says they went there and did that and had a great time....

Even worse, I find if I mention any place I visited, she will say "one of my clients went there" then list of the things at the place that everyone does. Sad part is she works at the business lounge at the airport. Its all other people's stories she is retelling...
