I have been practicing acting with script samples. I would sit in front of camera and read a script to practice and I have gotten decently good at it I think. From what friends have said, i understand they can be biased but the way my friend dynamic is they are honest. And truthfully I have a drive for it. And I think it’s my passion.

So I’m curious if there’s anyone out there that has an idea on where to start. Who to go to? Do I absolutely need to go to acting school? Or could I hire a private instructor to help me tame my skills and get good at it? Thank you :)

Look for a local amateur dramatic/ theatre group. Contact them and turn up when they're doing readings for productions :) That's what I did, it's great fun.

Are you the child of an actor by chance? Seems to be the only way.

I'll start of by saying acting as a career is a highly competitive field. So if you want to act professionally then I'd say be prepared to move to an area w/ a lot of jobs and start auditioning. You probably won't make it because you not only need to be talented, but also connected, and very lucky. I'd stay away from schools and tutors unless you get a big break and realize you need more training to actually move forward w/ a career.

If you're looking to do it as a hobby there's plenty of stuff you can do. Join a local theater group, find an online community, write/produce/act in your own soap opera videos. Honestly I think w/ how the world is today you might have a better chance turning professional making tiktok soap opera videos as you would auditioning for roles in Hollywood.

Are we talking hollywood? Broadway? Off-broadway? Local films?

Some of my theatre friends went to acting school. I think 2 are doing professional theatre and had to move for that opportunity. 1 got a gig on a cruise ship. 1 is a stage manager for Mirvish.

The rest just do community theatre here and hold day jobs. Some do comedy nights or whatever to scratch the itch.

Some make local films (or Toronto, which is close) doing sets, writing, etc. That appears to be gig work.

I don't think you make a lot acting anything but hollywood famous.

Shows and movies. I have always loved content like that. I have watched almost every movie you can think of and shows. And have read a decent amount of books. Even wrote my own and wrote my own script for a show. So I definitely would go into the show/movie industry

I know that getting into the movie/shows world can be very very difficult, so maybe you could try joining a theatre group? Depending on where you live there probably are some groups that do theatre (not schools but just groups) and it's usually super cheap to join. It could give you some field experience and maybe if you're really really good someone might notice you
