This is a good LPT, especially for your own mental well-being

You can't please everyone, so don't waste your time on hypocrite/narcissistic person/group. They'll never take responsibility for thier own action. And if you don't like/agree with thier agenda/ideology/belief, they'll just say you're a bad person because everything action they do is always good and justified.

In other words. Don't waste time arguing with strangers, (especially on the internet) you'll cause yourself more headaches and most of them cannot be reason with. They just want people to agree with them so they can confirm thier on biases. So you'll most likely be taking to a brick wall, even if you have good argument point to back it up.

So true. Confucius's friend told him, "Dude, get out of the capitol because they're going to kill you," so he went to live in the provinces, lol. I'd say not only can you not please or be liked by everybody, but the better you are, the more you will be hated by some.

wait, what? confucius was in the capitol? was he the one who stole the podium? or the one who put his feet on pelosi's desk?

capitol

kăp′ĭ-tl

noun

A building or complex of buildings in which a state legislature meets.

The building in Washington, DC, where the Congress of the United States meets.

In Rome, and in Roman cities and colonies, the precinct and temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the protector of the city.

China had a center of government. But I should have said capital, so thanks for your very astute and timely reply. Keep up the good work--I could have used you when I was grading 200 essays a week! Give yourself an award.

Can confirm, because I think Confucius was an ass whose only claim to fame is as a proto-structural functionalist and I blame him personally for the toxicity in cultural norms surrounding school, work and the family in East Asia today.

His philosophy was quite good for its time, but it was exploited by the ruling class as a tool of oppression as time went on

Exactly. And since I personally know Asian-Americans who adhere to his philosophies to form their ethics, and they are very enlightened, I admire him greatly.

The three examples weren’t interested in being liked. The Buddha wanted to become one with the universe; Jesus wanted to speak inconvenient truths to the rulers to force them to kill him.

But your point still stands; try to be in harmony with others but never try to make them like you.

Uh, no.

I get your point, but you gotta consider Jesus is in Jerusalem during a time of Roman occupation. Anything that upset the Romans was going to be merciless put down.

Jesus was the most based guerrilla fighter in history.

"Turn the other cheek" was a way to peacefully resist and subvert a Roman custom of backhand slapping their perceived lessers.

I agree and I remind myself of that when someone may be pissed off with me, BUT that's also something that a person who doesn't make any effort to communicate effectively or don't care about other people's perspectives would say

You could be a peach, apple or whatever fruit you want to be. You could be the perfect peach. The best size, color, not too sweet, full of flavor. etc etc. someone you may know, may never like peaches. No matter what qualities that peach might be, they just don’t like any peach and would never give it a try.
