I disagree. Perhaps your teacher didn't add "please always ask when you're stuck. The worst I'll answer is: try figuring it out yourself by XX-date and if you still need help, come see me".

I still remember to this day in first grade I had waited to ask a question I desperately needed answered in order to even start this basic math quiz. My tongue felt hot and I was becoming uncomfortably hot and panicky and then some kid asked the question I had. The teacher responded as if they weren't there for this very reason, and had never heard such a thing in their entire life.

I remember it so vividly due to the amount of relief I experienced after all the dread I felt for having the question answered and not having been the one who asked and have my worst fear realized by the teacher's unprofessional response.
