Wondering how to be written a check rather than being provided a rental car by the insurance company of the person who hit my car?

The insurance company is Geico if that matters.

I know it can be done, however I am unsure how to request this the correct way.

Edit: I might have answered my own question after re wording my google searches. Loss of use compensation seems to be the thing I need to ask for?

Well I can tell you that rental coverage almost never (if ever) covers anything other than providing a rental vehicle. That’s what the coverage is.

As far as the LOU compensation, I’m not sure this would apply. If so, I imagine it would be a reimbursement situation. Which is good, but it just won’t help you now with your needed transportation. I could be wrong about this, but I know my first paragraph is right.

So I don't have rental coverage, but as my car has to go to the shop and the other driver is at fault.

Even if you have another car, it seems like you're eligible via the article I posted.

I have another vehicle, but don't want a rental car if I have a check as another option.

Talk to your agent

My insurance agent, or the agent I am working with?

My insurance isn't covering this as I am not at fault.

I've only been dealing with the other company.

They should still be able to help you understand the process and what to expect to some degree, I would think? Even if it’s not them covering it, they can answer some questions I would assume. Idk, I’m from a no-fault state so our insurance always covers our own vehicles, even if not at fault.

I was in an accident several years ago, other guy's fault, totaled my vehicle, nobody hurt.

I worked with his adjuster and he added to the overall settlement money the amount "I had to pay my friend for rides to work". Which equaled about a week's rental.

Took a couple of calls, but he was ready to close the book.

Thank you, I asked the insurance agent/adjustor of the other party for this. But they weren't interested as my car wast in the shop at the moment.

Have an appointment booked, and have said I'd like to move forward with "loss of utilization" instead of a rental car.
