Firefox does this. Plus it has support for ublock origin on desktop and android.

For Android you need an extension but it works fine

True but Brave has an incomparable ad blocker

I never used it, I can trust Firefox from years of using it and then that story about brave hijacking links broke and although I'm sure it's fixed now the privacy aspect still concerns me

Banana-Kun_0 t1_j9pgacu wrote

Makes sense although if you use Google or socials or any product of that kind the hijacking links is last of your problems

Nice LPT, you should try the extension I don't care about cookies. Pretty good. It prevents cookies from showing up and will protect some of your privacy

This. Get Firefox on mobile and just download ublock origin and background fix add-ons. Takes a minute and you're set!

Heck i just use stock safari on my iphone. I get no problems listening to videos with my screen off.

Also uninstall Chrome while you're at it.

As far as I know, Brave hasn't had any controversies of scanning all the files on your PC and sending the hashes to Google.

I'm sorry what now?

Part of me is shocked, the rest of me isn't

Yeah if you search for it, the story is maybe 10 years old. I think wired magazine broke it. When google got caught, they said it was a secret anti-virus software they built in.

Or you can just install New pipe from the F-Droid Store and do the same thing. 😎

Thanks Brave employees! :) Just kidding, thanks for the advice

Already got it. I remember when I first made the switch and the pages, for a while, felt so short or empty or less cluttered because of the adblock lol.

Question: does it cost anything?

1

An0m4lous905 t1_j9rnkru wrote

It doesn't cost anything!

There's a basic version that's free and if you want more from them like their VPN, you can pay for that

Brave is fucking amazing- only thing I didn't like was that it stopped whenever I closed the app. You are a God 👌👌👌

whyunoletmepost t1_j9p0dzj wrote

It also blocks ads on YouTube right out of the box. Great program!

Sillyvanya t1_j9pq9fg wrote

I still just use Vanced

KingJeff314 t1_j9p6kak wrote

Brave also blocks ads, so it is good for iOS which can’t have UBlock afaik

Scat_fiend t1_j9pou0l wrote

Just get Brave. No ads on youtube!!!

We still need to get past YouTube's "are you still watching" prompt. I guess you could run a console script periodically..

Opera gx could've done it all ngl

Does this work for iOS?

Long8D OP t1_j9sgbtw wrote

Yes it does that’s why I posted it here because android already has Vanced that does this.

How does Brave stack up against Duck Duck Go? I've been running that on my phone for about four years without any obvious issues.

1

Long8D OP t1_j9sggyq wrote

Not really sure as I haven’t used duck duck go but I’ve been using brave for over a year now and I really like it.

Zero1705 t1_j9s7tpa wrote

Not sure if it exists for Android but for iOS, the Musi app can also play any YouTube video in the background and on top of that you can make playlists, randomize songs, queue songs, etc.

Sad_Reason788 t1_j9t94ui wrote

Been using brave but never thought could do this lol

Lokivstheworld t1_j9ogcvg wrote

Also get rid of google and use brave instead for a safe browsing experience where your data isn't being sold

Yeah, I've been using it for over a year now and no regrets so far.

Nobody tell Google, but chrome already does this.

sourdictionary t1_j9oob3u wrote

chrome is google.

grumblyoldman t1_j9p1u86 wrote

YouTube is also Google, which means the fact that this restriction exists at all means one would expect it not to work in Chrome. So, don't tell Big G they missed a spot.

IIIIIlIIIIIlIIIII t1_j9ow1k2 wrote

Edge does the same, you don't really need Brave.

Mysterious623 t1_j9p4jhj wrote

Brave is also good for built in ad block but cool, I didn't know that edge has that feature. One day it might be standard on all browsers and the next generation will laugh at our plight
